pretty good, most of the time

I’m kinda imagining myself in the middle of this stock photo right now. With a cup of coffee.

The motto for our house is “pretty good, most of the time.” Mediocrity has its advantages, and it’s an underestimated state of being mainly because I see the anguish of moms trying to be Pinterest mom or Sugar Rush mom or “homemade ribbon for baby shower gifts” mom and seriously, I am intimidated by all those people.

It’s Valentine’s Day today and mediocrity means sending the kids to school with store-bought valentines. Yay moms who handmade valentines – I want to be you. But your valentines are also going straight in the trash once the kids are asleep (if they sleep after all that damn candy) just the same as the other store-bought ones sent by other mediocre moms. Sorry not sorry.

We all do special in our own ways. Mine special is not in grand public gestures. It’s in small things like coloring at 5:45am because 4.5 is awake and wants to color.

Mediocre moms, I see you. Go on with your mediocre selves. Here’s your tribe. Go forth and do pretty good, most of the time.

don’t follow me, I’m lost too.
